Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson test positive for the coronavirus

Hollywood actor Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Castaway star, who is currently in Australia for the pre-production of an upcoming Elvis Presley biopic, revealed the diagnosis in a post on Twitter Wednesday evening.

“Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches,” Hanks explained. “Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.”

The actor went on to state that he intended to follow the directions of local medical professionals as he and Wilson attempt to recover.

“We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires,” he added. “Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?”

Warner Bros., which is expected to release the film in 2021, also released a statement regarding Hanks’ condition.

“We are working closely with the appropriate Australian health agencies to identify and contact anyone who may have come in direct contact with the individual,” the studio said. “The health and safety of our company members is always our top priority, and we are taking precautions to protect everyone who works on our productions around the world.”

News of the couple’s situation came on the same day that the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus, known officially as COVID-19, a pandemic.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday evening also announced a ban on flights from Europe to the U.S. for the next 30 days with an exemption for the U.K.
